I lock the slide back, drop the mag, flip the takedown lever down, then pull back on slide, and slowly release tension of recoil spring, and continue forward until slide is off frame rails. No matter how hard I push the slide release button down while pulling the slide to the rear it would not release with empty magazine inserted.
