To get the friendly health bars to show up, you just go in to the menu by pressing escape>interface>names, and then check both check boxes for friendly player names. To make them narrow (like in the picture) you have to have Plater installed. You can outline and customize friendly-npc names without affecting player unit's nameplates and this is possible with every classified unit in the game.
